I have a solution for you and it might just prove to be a better one than buying a new textbook. Try Algebrator, it covers a rather elaborate list of mathematical topics and is highly recommended. With it you can solve various types of questions and it’ll also address all your enquiries as to how it came up with a particular solution . I tried it when I was having difficulty solving problems based on pre-algebra (prentice hall mathematics), india and I really enjoyed using it.

I might be able to help if you can send more details about your problems. Alternatively you may also check out Algebrator which is a great piece of software that helps to solve math problems. It explains everything thoroughly and makes the topics seem very easy. I must say that it is indeed worth every single penny.

I remember having problems with exponent rules, decimals and radical equations. Algebrator is a truly great piece of math software. I have used it through several math classes - Pre Algebra, Intermediate algebra and Algebra 2. I would simply type in the problem and by clicking on Solve, step by step solution would appear. The program is highly recommended.
