# Multiplying Square Roots

Now we will look at several examples of multiplying radical expressions.

We have already used the Multiplication Property of Square Roots to multiply two square roots by multiplying their radicands. Here, the factors 3 and 4 lie outside the radical symbols. We multiply 3 by 4, and we multiply the radicands. We use the Distributive Property to remove the parentheses. We use the FOIL method to multiply two radical expressions, each with two terms.

Example

Find:

Solution Use the FOIL method. Multiply. The middle terms are opposites and cancel. Simplify 9. = 3 - 25 Subtract. = -22
